Following on from our shooting of The MasterClass Experience Dance MasterClass two weeks ago, last week we were privileged to film the same organisation’s inaugural Musical Theatre MasterClass at mac Birmingham. Whilst TMCE is in its third year as an intense training programme for West Midlands dancers, this is the first time they have offered a similar programme focussing on the three disciplines associated with musical theatre; singing, acting and dance. Over the course of three days the young performers were tested with a range of songs from musicals as diverse as perennial favourite Les Miserables to modern hits such as Legally Blonde and critically acclaimed revivals such as A Chorus Line. They honed their acting skills with scenes from the shows and mastered choreographed routines, as well as receiving professional development through career advice and mock auditions. As with the dance programme, it all builds to a final showcase, where the songs, scenes and dances are performed before friends and family, offering participants the opportunity to experience life as a musical theatre actor.
After having been engaged by TMCE’s founder Emma Lingard to film the Dance MasterClass event last year, our services were retained for both the 2013 Dance MasterClass and for the new all singing, all dancing Musical Theatre version. As part of the programme students receive a DVD featuring the edited highlights of their experience, with every class, session and rehearsal filmed as well as the all important final performance. It was very exciting to witness the start of a new chapter for TMCE, and to capture the acting performances, vocal high notes and dance ability of the extremely dedicated and hugely talented participants. It was fascinating to see the multiple disciplines a stage performer must master, and was a completely different but no less thrilling experience than filming the earlier Dance Masterclasses.
The final video of the Dance MasterClass is almost complete and looking fantastic, after which time we will launch immediately into the toe-tapping Musical Theatre version. For more information on TMCE, visit their website or watch the promotional video we created for them below:
